President Obama is trying to ban assult weapons. No one can really decide what to consider as an assult weapon though. Some people think that the term, "assult weapon" means a semiautomatic rifle with multiple attatchments or an extended magazine. The experts dont think the same. They think the term, "assult weapon" means a weapon with fully automatic fire. Most people don't think the ban will happen because most republicans and democrats don't like the idea and after two decades of trying to pass gun control, the ban is probably still not going to happen.
